What is Express Entry?
Express Entry is an online system used by the Canadian government to manage and process applications for skilled immigrants who want to settle in Canada permanently. Launched in January 2015 by Immigration, Refugees, and Citizenship Canada (IRCC), the system is designed to streamline the immigration process and select candidates with the highest potential for successful integration into Canadian society.
Express Entry uses a points-based system called the Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) to rank applicants based on factors such as age, education, work experience, language proficiency in English or French, and adaptability. The CRS awards points to applicants, and those with the highest scores are invited to apply for permanent residency through regular draws conducted by the IRCC.
Express Entry covers three federal economic immigration programs:
- Federal Skilled Worker Program (FSWP): For skilled workers with foreign work experience who want to immigrate to Canada.
- Federal Skilled Trades Program (FSTP): For qualified tradespeople in specific skilled trades who want to immigrate to Canada.
- Canadian Experience Class (CEC): For skilled workers who have Canadian work experience and want to become permanent residents.
Applicants need to create an online profile, provide the necessary information, and submit the required documents to be considered for Express Entry. Once invited, applicants have 60 days to submit a complete application for permanent residency.
